PROSTATE CANCER LAY LEADERS EARLY DETECTION TRAINING PROGRAM The African American Community Health Advisory Committee (AACHAC) received a grant from the University of California San Francisco- San Francisco State University REDUCE Cancer Awareness Program to train men from AACHAC’s partnering churches and the community to become Prostate Cancer Lay Leaders. The American Cancer Society trained seven men and one woman in July 2005. The goal of the program is to deliver educational programs to 350 men on prevention, the importance of early detection and screening. Educational programs will be presented to churches and service organizations. Lay leaders will also encourage men to attend the annual September Prostate Awareness Screening and educational program. Several methods will be used to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. Download a video of the training program (2.2MB, WMV). For more information, please contact at (650) 696-4378.
