FITNESS EXPERT LEADS SOUL STROLL 2005 Nationally known fitness guru Becky Singleton will be honorary chair for Soul Stroll for Health 2005, Gloria Brown, chair of the African American Community Health Advisory Committee, announced. The fourth annual community walk and health fair is set for Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Coyote Point Park in San Mateo. Participants in the non-competitive walk choose between three bayside trails; get free health screenings; enjoy a disc jockey, recreation for kids, lunch and prizes. Registration is $15, and everyone is welcome, Brown said. Becky Singleton is the founder and CEO of Urban Fitness Connection, Inc., and creator of the best-selling video Just Like You. A motivational speaker, exercise physiologist and medical consultant, she was noted as Heart & Soul Magazine’s top fitness expert. Singleton is a survivor and lifetime advocate against domestic violence. She was honored in Washington, D.C., with the “Black Women of Courage” award in 1998 and in 1995 joined then President Bill Clinton at the White House to sign the Violence Against Women’s Act into law. She is a recent cancer survivor. Soul Stroll for Health is seeks to promote exercise and good nutrition as the path to better health. It is sponsored by Mills-Peninsula’s African American Community Health Advisory Committee in collaboration with dozens of other community agencies and organizations.
