AFRICAN AMERICAN HEALTH SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN OAKLAND

The Bay Area Black United Fund has joined forces with Kaiser Permanente, the Oakland YMCA, and Alameda County's Public Health Department to convene a Bay Area-wide Summit on the status of African Americans' health. The Summit will be held Friday, January 31, 2003 and Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Oakland Marriott. Preliminary planning projects Friday's events to involve health care providers, members of faith-based communities, community organizers and activists. The proceedings will work to advance the Black community's response to the health crisis. Saturday's events will be a lively, interactive and family oriented day focused on nutrition and exercise. Participants will be encouraged to try out different health activities and exercises, receive health counseling, and attend seminars on changing sedentary lifestyles and poor eating habits.

Individuals and organizations interested in volunteering for the planning committee or helping out during the Summit are encouraged to call Colette Winlock, BABUF's Health Program Officer at (510) 763-7270 or e-mail her at cwinlock@babuf.org
