Join RAMP and a panel
of experts for a workshop on asthma & diesel on October 2, 2003
from
10:00 am - 3:00 pm at the
Regional Asthma Management & Prevention (RAMP) Initiative (1515
Clay Street, 2nd Floor, Room 11, Oakland).
By the end of this workshop, asthma programs
will:

gain a better understanding of the relationship
between diesel and asthma and an understanding of the pros and
cons of various alternatives. |

learn about some of the different approaches
to diesel reduction that could serve as models for activities in
your
communities/region. |
 |
start to connect with people
who are working on diesel issues, with the hopes of future partnerships and work
together. |

agree upon some key messages about diesel and
asthma that you can use in your work. |

A brief overview of the connection between diesel and asthma; a "lay
of the land" covering some of the issues around diesel
Diesel in the Bay Area
What is the overall diesel pollution burden in the Bay Area? Where
are our biggest sources of diesel pollution? What are some of the
clean up options and technologies being used?
Strategies What are some strategies that have been used statewide?

A discussion of media advocacy approaches and the development of
key messages for asthma groups.
We have confirmed expert speakers from the
National Resources Defense Council, Coalition for Clean Air, Union
of Concerned Scientists,
and the American Lung Association.
